Work Experience

During Enrichment Week (this school year Monday 2nd July to Friday 6th July 2012), all Year 10 and Year 12 students are expected to complete a work-based placement.

Work experience is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain an insight into the world of work and learn new skills.   This is a chance for students to demonstrate their employability – you can never have too much work experience on your c.v.

The big challenge is finding an employer that is willing and able to offer a work based placement (stringent Health and Safety Regulations apply*).    In order to encourage self responsibility we actively discourage students from relying on working with their parent/carer;  however, we do encourage parents/carers to actively support their son/daughter in choosing and succeeding in their work based employment.

All students are also supported by their Form Tutors and we are fortunate that a number of employers continue to support our work experience programme despite the tough economic conditions.

Students should already be actively approaching possible employers about work based placements.  It is very important to start looking early and to approach a number of employers.

Year on year, Kineton High School students are able to feel proud of their achievements during their work placements.  In a number of cases, this has even led to students being successful in gaining either an apprenticeship or more permanent position with their chosen employer.

I am hoping that 2012 will represent another successful year in which 100% of KHS students, who wish to find a work-based employment, are able to do so.

Mr. Simon Perkin
Work Experience coordinator (Fridays only)

* All placements have to undergo a health and safety check.  School will pay for the cost of the checks for local placements in Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire only.   Parents will need to pay for checks for placements further afield which cost more (circa £30-£50) and can take longer to process.
