ILT – A Guide for Parents
Independent Learning Tasks (ILT) help students develop their learning skills and their subject knowledge. Each subject ILT has a framework and deadlines to support students in completing their work.
Each ILT should take about 7 – 10 hours. There is a set deadline for completing the ILT and teachers will monitor students’ progress. Personal Tutors also support students in planning their time and the use of our after hours study club.
In addition students also have regular homework in Maths, Modern Foreign Languages and Art on set days each week.
For each ILT students receive a booklet or task sheet that sets out the key learning objectives. They will be structured to allow students to work at their own level and develop their knowledge and understanding of the subject matter in a way that best suits them. All our ILTs are designed to help students build their learning power. Building Learning Power Explained
It is typical that students may struggle in the initial stages whilst they work out what the task is about and how they are going to approach it. This is when the best learning takes place. Learning something new can be frustrating so if they are not making progress and you are not able to help them then please do not hesitate to contact us. Either email us or write a note in your child’s planner and ask them to show the teacher.
At the end of each ILT the teacher assesses the piece of work and feedback is provided to the student. Peer and self assessment may also be used to help students benefit from talking about their learning.
Students can come to ‘Learning Club’ on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 2.45pm and 3.50pm each week. Library and teaching staff are on hand and can help your child access a range of resources to help them with their work.
ILTs are published on the website with their deadline date.
