Maths
We are a hard-working team with a passion for Mathematics. We are committed to the development of exciting and engaging learning experiences which will stimulate students while also improving their understanding.
Facilities
There are four dedicated rooms all of which are equipped with WE-Learn computer and projector.
Programme of Study
The department has developed its own Scheme of Work based on the National Numeracy Strategy. We use a variety of resources, including Interact, Key Mathematics and MEP textbooks. We also strongly believe in teaching to objectives not in following what is done in a textbook, and we are developing and adding activities and resources to our Schemes of Work.
Key Stage Three
Key Stage Four
We have been one of the schools entering students for the OCR Pilot Two tier GCSE exam. While the structure of the new exam is different from the Pilot, we are well placed to cope with the new exam in September as all our Schemes of Work and Programmes of Study have been produced based on a two tier exam. We again use a variety of resources, but mainly Interact textbooks. backed up with many extra resources and worksheets.
Key Stage Five
We follow the AQA syllabus for AS and A2, completing the modules Core 1 and 2 and Mechanics in Year 12, and the modules Core 3 and 4 and Statistics in Year 13.
Groups
In Year 7 the students are organised within each half of the year into three sets based on their performance in Year 6 SATs and on the recommendations of Primary schools. This setting continues into Year 8 In Year 9 we either continue the same arrangement or have sets 1 to 6. Students move between the sets based on their performance in assessment tests held four times during the year. In Year 10 the students are placed in 7 or 8 groups depending on the size of the year, of which 3 are Higher and the rest Foundation.
