Key Stage 3

In years 7, 8 & 9, students attend 1 hour of ICT per week, taught in dedicated ICT studios by skilled ICT teachers.  Outside of lessons, they have the opportunity to attend after school ICT classes, to develop their skills and learn new ones.  In order to cut down on paper waste, students develop a website each year using Macromedia Dreamweaver to publish and present their work.

Induction/Year 7

In Year 7 students make use of the range of Microsoft Office software to build on Primary school knowledge and to develop new skills in other software.

        MS PowerPoint to design presentations

        MS Excel to create spreadsheets

MS Word to develop their word processing knowledge

Internet browsing software to learn about web safety

Macromedia Fireworks to learn how to draw using a PC

        Animation software

Key Stage 4

All Key Stage 4 students are now required to study ICT for 1 hour every 2 weeks, to ensure they have appropriate skills for Post 16 education or employment. Aside from the Core ICT lessons, we also provide ICT as a GCSE Option, where students can achieve 2 GCSE’s through the EDEXCEL CIDA Curriculum.

CORE:

Throughout Year 10 & Year 11, students will make use of ICT facilities to develop their other core subject skills in Science, English & Maths:

         Science data handling projects

         English multimedia publications

         Mathematics inter-school Jaguar challenge

GCSE:

“Digital media now plays an increasingly important part in our everyday lives and in the world of work.  CIDA offers students an ideal opportunity to explore uses of ICT in a variety of familiar contexts.”

          What will you do?

Complete an e-portfolio (no paper!) which is worth 100% of the final grade.

           There are no examinations!!

You will learn about:

ü      YEAR 10 – Unit 1: Using ICT

Key Stage 5

In the academic year 2009-10, we will be introducing the new OCR Level 3 National Certificate in ICT (equivalent to one A Level). The Diploma has been designed to accredit candidates’ achievements in a modern and practical way that is relevant to the workplace. This course has been developed to recognise learners skills, knowledge and understanding of Information and Communication Technology functions, environments and operations. The learners carry out a range of tasks that have been designed to recognise their achievements in a modern, practical way that is relevant to the workplace.

Out of Hours Learning

ICT suites are available after school 3 nights each week for students to attend after school booster lessons, or to just work on their coursework.

Skilled teachers are always available to support and facilitate students learning.

Sixth Form also have the use of their own dedicated ICT suite with all required amenities.

We are committed to equipping our students with the ICT and Business skills required to work in an ever-changing environment.

This is achieved through a supportive learning environment with the help of dedicated and specialised ICT and Business staff!
